SERVE ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Clarington East Food Bank (CEFB) is seeking to add 2 new volunteer Board Members effective May 17, 2023.

We are looking to add 2 new Directors to our Board who live and/or work in one of the communities in which we serve – one as Director and Chair and the other as Director and Secretary.

The primary role of the Board of Directors of CEFB is to advance and advocate for its mission by making decisions regarding strategy, operations, finance, and staffing.

The Board meets the 3rd Wednesday of January, March, May, September and November from 7:00-8:30 p.m. An additional time commitment of 4-6 hours per month during the first half of the term can be expected so the new board members can familiarize themselves with the operations of CEFB, transitioning to 2-4 hours per month once experience is gained with activities and tasks such as strategic planning, policies and procedures, and review of finances. The Board operates as a Committee of the Whole; however, ad hoc committees are struck on an as-needed basis and we look to have Board members volunteer to participate and attend community events during the year. At this time, the term is one year with ongoing renewal; however, this term length will be under review in the next year.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership, advice, and performance review of the Program Manager
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements
  • Approval and oversight of policies, procedures, and financial expenditures
  • Review the oversight and fulfillment of the strategic plan’s objectives at regular intervals with the Program Manager
  • Involvement with fundraising activities on an ad hoc
  • Participation in the development (required meeting on June 19, 2023, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) and implementation of a new strategic plan
  • Attend the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Applicants should have previous board experience
  • The ideal candidate should possess some or all of the following skills:
    • Governance experience
