About Us
In 1995, a group of community leaders and concerned citizens identified community support for those who required food assistance in Clarington East. They formed a founding board of directors and established a charitable organization officially named Clarington East Economic Support. Back then, the intent may have been to offer a broader range of social services to those in the community who were facing economic challenges, however, a food bank was seen as the most practical service to organize and deliver at the time.
Located at 250 Mill St. South Newcastle, the Clarington East Food Bank (CEFB) provides food assistance to those living in Newcastle, Orono, Newtonville, Kendal, and Kirby. Relying entirely on contributions from local citizens, businesses, and community partners; we support approximately 60 – 80 families with non-perishable food items, diapers, formula, and toiletries.
We happily welcome any individual to the food bank.
Our regular hours are Tuesdays 11 a.m. -2 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
CEFB is committed to providing services in a respectful, fair, and equitable manner and to be transparent and accountable to our community. We believe in social justice, the reduction of food insecurity in our community, and helping individuals and their families feel valued – regardless of their circumstances. As a member of the Food Banks Canada, CEFB has access to the many grants and programs that they offer and we subscribe to The Ethical Foodbanking Code. The CEFB is also a member of the Feed Ontario and the Newcastle & District Chamber of Commerce.
